It's generally recommended that you use a weight distribution hitch any time your trailer is greater than 1/2 of the tow vehicle's GVWR; this isn't a hard and fast rule, but it's definitely something that is going to help create a safer and more comfortable towing experience. Weight distributing hitches come either with integrated sway control or without a sway control system.
